Using every digital channel possible I am sending love to my amazingly brave mate Grace. She has feet like a polar bears at the moment (complete with claws) after and op and she is being extremely brave.

Also I wanted to use that as an excuse to blog what drugs she is taking. Look:

Introducing.... 'Failextrics'

  • Feb 9, 2009
  • Post a comment

I want to exclusively confirm on this here blog that, yes, the rumours are true. Myself and smAsh are in a band. We are called 'Failextrics'.

We had our 3rd practice together on Saturday and I can tell you that there is Magic happening. When we are practising we are like the musical equivalent Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee.

Songs are just being pulled out of the ether. Its almost as if we are channelling them from another dimension. I would go as saying that we are 'prolific' with our songwriting abilities. Without each other we are nothing. Together we are the future of music.

When people ask us what we sound like we say that we don't want to pigeon hole ourselves. We just sound like Failextrics. There is no one else who sounds anything like us. Not now. Not ever.

Failextrics is:
Lounatik - Bass/Electronics/songwriting/Cool
smAsh - Drums/Vocals/Reflecting

I'm gonna blog a photo from each and every practice so you can visually see music omitting from our very beings.

Here is smAsh at last practice. Look at her go:

Emmy the Average - gig #3 of 2009

Band count 09 = 6

030220092504
030220092504
Paid £7 to see 3 bands that were prob collectively worth about £4-4.50. £3.50 of that would have been justified for Emmy the Great. Although twee and a tad boring, she has a nice voice and nice lyrics. I didn't hate it.
I did, however, hate her support bands. The first one turned out to be Emmys backing band. They were shockingly shit. 'Flacid' is the word I would use if I were asked to describe them in one word.  Another word I might use would be 'Tepid'.
The second band occasionally showed signs of being 'ok', but mainly resided in the 'shit' category.
So 1/2 out of 3 for this night.
Shoulda stayed in and caught up with Come Dine With Me.

I have a dirty secret. For the past 3 weeks I have spent either Saturday or Sunday watching a weeks worth of Come Dine With Me in one go. Best telly for ages. Although it has rekindled a love of shit TV though. I hope I can keep it to just a casual thing. I fear this is like trying to be casual crack user and its doomed to slide slide into a full blown addiction. I'll be a massive fatty in no time, watching 5 hours of TV a night with only a garlic bread to keep me company. Ahh just like old times :)

Gallops/Talons @ Clwb - Gig #2 of 09

Band count of 08 = 3

240120092492
240120092492
My second gig of the year lamely involved the same band as the first - the band which all Cardiff venues seem to want to book since Swn - Gallops. It was good to watch them again without being preoccupied (and drunk). I was able to give them my full attention this time. I thought they were really good, but I think they have work to do. Songs seem to end pretty abruptly and their set seems fall a bit short for headline band.
The general consensus (well talking to Ash afterwards) was that they should let the endings of songs run a bit more so there is more scope to let off and dance. They didn't blow my mind, but I did enjoy them.

The support band really impressed me though. Herefords 'Talons' took everyone by surprise by exploding into their set of furious post-rock excellence. You would expect kids their age to be playing generic indie (they were pretty young). which is is a sweeping statement I know. But it was refreshing to see kids this age into really good music.
I though they sounded much better when they had their 2 violinists on stage with them. Very impressive. Although I found the lead guitarists stage antics quite forced and unconvincing even though his guitar skills were shit hot!
Finishing their set off with the bass player accidentally smashing the violinist over the head... they left me with a big smile on my face.

I was pleased to remember my ear plugs this time and adhere to a new years resolution that I set myself. I love being able to hear stuff. I don't want that to stop.

Hung around for a few hours while Clwb filled up with the usual influx of students/townies/tools/munters dancing to the usual generic indie hits that you'll find spewing out of any indie clubs' speakers on a saturday night.
I spent some time throwing myself around. Until it was time to go home (via Burger King - oh the shame).

Oh and Burger King is an amazing place to be at 2:30 on a Sunday morning. There is a feast for the eyes everywhere. I wish I had taken some photos. If it weren't for me incessantly ramming a Bacon Double Cheese Burger into my face at the time I probably woulda!!
