Howlin Rain/Yellow Moon Band/Zumbar at Clwb.
Our mate Eli plays in Zumbar. They were ace. Yellow Moon Band (featuring Jo and Danny who put on the Green Man Festival) are proper good. Jo, the lady, she plays the guitar in a skirt. Girls playing guitar are ace. She looks cool. I want to be that cool. Maybe I will be that cool if I start playing the bass again. I was rubbish though. But I did look cool. All about the aesthetics.
I heard a line in a
Laurie Anderson song today which went "ethics is the aesthetics of the future"
I don't know what it means, but it is a wicked line!
Howlin Rain were awesome. Did one of the best cover versions I have heard for time. Can't remember for the life of me what it was....it was ace though....... i'll get back to you on that one.
Here is the Yellow Moon Band, complete with lady/guitar and double instrument action..
Here are Howlin Rain (featuring Grace on 'pint)
Here is Zumbar... look at Eli go! Rockin!
We walked back to Ash's in the rain. In our wisdom, Ash and I started jumping in puddles. Regretted that very shortly afterwards.
Here is Jamie looking triumphant on the way home after winning the tickets, but stupid as it is late at night raining and he is in shorts and tshirt! (he is one step away from flip flops.... wrong!)
We found a piece of paper with foot prints on it on the way home... look:
Bed. Its 2:32am. 5 1/2 hours til I have to get up. Thats enough sleep. Who needs sleep anyway. Its over rated. Sleep when i'm dead (theres gonna be no sleep for me in hell though. far to much fun stuff to be doing!!) :)
Just come back from seeing some bands in Chapter. To tired to write really. But i'll have a go....
No Thee No Ess were really good (starring Andy Fung off of Cymbiant). Sang a song about a hotel. It was the best song I have heard about a hotel since Hotel California and Hotel Yorba. I am going to start penning a song called 'Travel Lodge'. I'll get to work on that right after I finish this.
My lovely mate Ellie then played with her band Silver Spurs. As I have said before, I rate them. Check me loving bands with banjo's in them. The shame. You dare tell anyone I do and I'm coming for you. I have to maintain my street image y'kno. Banjo's are not how I roll.....
There was a bluegrass band on afterwards, but I legged it after their first song. Wasn't feeling the bluegrass tonight. Mind was elsewhere....
Here is Ellie, Eli and Gareth..... Silver Spurs to you :)
On the way home I went to Tesco.
This is what I shall mainly be consuming tomorrow:.
Hold on.... I just noticed I paid £1.24 for some tuna chunks. Thats an outrage. I have just done a google search and found them for 69p look. Rip Off! Thats Tesco Express for you tho innit. I once found some chicken breasts for £8 there. Hold on, i did take a photo to blog it at the time and I never used it..... I might be able to find it if you give me 2 mins.... be right back...
Here it is....
R.I.P. O.F.F! Needless to say I went chickenless that evening. Mr. Tesco's is EVIL (but oh so convenient. where else will you find chickpeas, milk, tuna and oatcakes for sale at 10:48 on a Sunday night?... supply and demand eh.).
Bjork forchrissakes!!!..... how cool is that? A road trip to Plymouth with my homegirls Ash and Grace... should be fun I rekon!
Have you noticed how much fun I am having at the moment. Lucky fucker aint I! :)
Apparently touring with Bjork is LFO. And I have heard from a reliable source that they drop into 'Freak' during her set. How amazing is that going to be? My head might explode!
Expect a variety of lo-quality photos of our trip posted here on Wednesday
Finally managed to see handsome Dan play with his band Lone Pine, worth the wait, they were ace! They supported Danny and the champions of the World in Clwb, who were quite pleasant. A man played a Sitar while another one wore a poncho. Can you only sit down to play a sitar? Is that why they are called SITar? We then legged it over to 10 Feet Tall to catch Zumbar who were rockin....... before embarking on a very slick and professional DJ set.
I am listening to Low and they are literally ripping my insides out. Drums and Guns is on at the moment. The tune 'Murderer' to be specific.
I am going to watch them in Bristol on Monday. I cannot wait. I am fully prepared for intermittent dampening of the eyes throughout.
Also, Bjork the week after in Plymouth. I can't wait for that either. I am a lucky lucky lady.
Saw Future of the Left play at Clwb tonight. They were fuckin 'pumpin' as beev would say :)
Really, really rate them. I stood on a chair and danced like a mental throughout. I have been trained up well at the school of Ash in this. I learnt from the master. I am glad I have reached the point in my life where I really don't care about what people that I don't know think. I know i'm cool. I'm having a better time than they are. That's all that matters!
They sang Manchasm. Here is Mark Foley being right whilst watching them sing about him being right. He is always right. Quite possibly one of the wisest men I know. And he looks like on of the wise men with his beard 'n all. If you ever have a problem with any kinda stuff, go see Mark. He'll will make sense of it.
Here is Beev having a lovely time. I love Beev. :) xx
A dance downstairs to a plethora of indie hits with ash then pints in Dempseys. Met a mental man who sung me a song about unicorns only being horses with nice hats. Good times.
Bed now. I like this post night out blogging. Its good to do before bed and less calories than horlicks.
Gig #16, how they are clocking up.
Tonight Ash, Grace, Beev and I Took a jaunt to Bristol to see the obscenely named Holy Fuck! in the Thekla. I rate their album loads. Its worth checking out their tune 'Lovely Allen' if you aint heard them before. This tune was probably the highlight of their set. Lots of dancing at the front. This included me, ash and grace and other assorted mentals.
They were way more electronic that I woulda thought them to be live. Electronic = good. But despite this, they still weren't mind blowing (see last post for Efterklang :) ). Can't expect to have my tiny mind blown to pieces 2 nights in a row. Wouldn't want it to be either. Too much for one tiny mind.
The support band Free Blood, were good sounding but lazy as fuck as they just sang and danced around to a backing track. Like a cool karaoke. Good to listen to. A bit shite to watch.
I like the Thekla though. Its a great venue. Its good because, its a venue, but its on a boat. Thats right, ON A BOAT. I love venues, and I love boats, therefore I love this place :)
Marathon journey home. Had to go via Bath cos of bastarding road works. We amused ourselves by taking it in turns to DJ on the Ipod, combined with much singing (from me) and dancing (from me also). We had an eclectic mix bag of tunes which included hits from the likes of The Black Ghosts, Skream, Smog, Sparklehorse, Bjork, Aesop Rock and Wu Tang Clan. A dip in the volume on the stereo caused a shout from the back "Turn it up, this aint no Bistro" from smAsh. Which made me laugh. She is the only person to get in my car and turn the tunes up. Everyone else turns them down and complains.
Its is 2:17am. I should go to bed.
Night y'all. :) x
Oh one last thing before I hang up the line for the last time....... I have just found this really nice Holy Fuck! remix of Radiohead's 'Nude'. Check it!
This gig was by far the best thing I have seen this year. It is one of the best things I have probably seen ever. Pretty special.
I had only heard Efterklang over Ash's house and online a bit before watching them tonight, so I had no idea how good they were going to be. A 7 piece band where all but 1 sings and plays more than one instrument! There was electronic beats, recorders, piano, one of those keyboard things that you blow into with your mouth.... and thats not all.... so much going on. So exceptionally mind blowing. I literally had my mouth open in amazement for a lot of the time. They were so good, I even joined in with everyone clapping rhythmically and I NEVER do that EVER especially not smiling like some mental, like I was.
Definitely buying their latest album next time i'm in Spillers. I woulda brought it tonight, but I spent all my money on a beautiful t-shirt (£15 - yes I did love them that much).
Its the best thing when your watching a band and they are so good that you smile. This has happened a few times recently. Errors, Dead Meadow, Right Hand Left Hand, Unkle, Hot Chip. Man I have been to see some bands this year already. I fuckin love music. I was trying to work out what percentage of my waking day I spend listening to music on average. I dunno, its high. Today has got to be at least 90% possibly 95%... Honestly... Just look at my last.fm charts. And thats not including vinyl and gigs..... I'm an addict fo'sure. Music = natures drugs!
A jaunt to Bristol tomorrow to see Holy Fuck! I cannot wait! I love their album so bad!
Man im tired. Nearly didnt go out. Glad I did though. This band were ace. Despite no soundcheckin and keeping us hanging around far longer than they shoulda before they played. Fired up on caffeine (2 coffees & 2 diet cokes with a Brains break in bettween) I managed to muster up enough energy to facilitate a good bit of head nodding and the occasional swayin motion. They rocked. I've gotta buy one of their albums next time Im in Spillers. Along with the Retribution Gospel Choir album.... (Low singer/songwriter Alan Sparhawk , Mark Kozelek produced album - awesome!) and the Lift to Experience album, who I have only recently listened to (last week).
Oh a album I am listening to lots at the moment is this one:
I have just blasted it to and from the 'diff. It is fuckin ace!

Bed Now.
I love Malcolm Middleton. I hated this venue.
Who wants to see a legend playing beautiful, eye dampening songs, SAT DOWN on the most arse numbing seats, while people around you are served a varying array of edible goods in baskets. This is wrong. Food in baskets is wrong.... but that aside, being forced to SIT and watch music is horrible. I wanted to get close to Malcci but I had to stay seated. I really rated him, but the only way I could express my love was by subtly nodding my head. Which is a weird experience. Not been to a seated gig since my folks took me to see Shakin Stevens play St Davids hall in 1989 (he played a classic set and we went for a Wimpy afterwards).
Despite this, I thought he was ace. For me to still have a good time in this shit hole of a venue is a testament to how great Malcolm Middleton was....(also the company weren't arf bad)...
One redeeming feature of this venue is that it has a big burly bouncer patrolling the seated audience. One of the highlights of the evening was when this bouncer exercised his right to silence fuckin idiots who persistently talk while people are playing on stage. This was ace. What a twat that man looked when he got 'told off'. Ha. Fuckin. Ha. All venues should have one of these. Not so important when your skankin to dubstep, but when listening to downbeat shite it should be mandatory.
Oh and I love the irony of the photo above. None more glee than wee Malcci!
